Trade War Raises Cyber Stakes With China
The Trump administration’s trade war with China deepens the risk of state-sponsored hackers burrowing further into U.S. infrastructure, cybersecurity experts say.
The goal, they say, would be to gain intelligence about tariffs, trade tactics, sanctions and export controls, among other things.
Beyond intelligence gathering, concerns that China may extend its response to full-scale cyberattacks are reaching into corporate boardrooms, with critical-infrastructure operators spooked by recent revelations of Chinese cyber operations targeting key U.S. facilities.
