In this technical session, NetRise Senior Staff Engineer Craig Heffner will walk through real-world firmware encryption techniques and how to break them — no advanced crypto knowledge required. Craig is the creator of the popular open source tool Binwalk, and brings over 20 years of experience analyzing wireless and embedded systems. He has previously worked at the NSA, Microsoft, and several successful cybersecurity startups, and has spoken at top-tier conferences including Black Hat and DEF CON.
DEF CON Challenge: Firmware Decryption with Open Source Clues

Test your reverse engineering skills in our interactive challenge. Participants receive an encrypted firmware image for a D-Link access point and its public GPL source code. Your mission?
